Venezuela activated epidemiological surveillance and diagnosis system to prevent coronavirus

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela activated the epidemiological surveillance and diagnostic system to prevent the occurrence of acute respiratory infection in our territory caused by a new strain of the coronavirus, after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared its contagion as a public health emergency of international importance.

In the statements, the senior official reiterated that there is no confirmed case either in Venezuela or in Latin America and said that the epidemiological surveillance and diagnostic system of the Laboratory of the Rafael Rangel National Institute of Hygiene remains alert to detect possible cases of coronavirus, in the case it might arrive in the country.

He said that this week the country will receive a diagnostic kit for the coronavirus mutation, delivered by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), while adding that entry into the Maiquetía International Airport is being monitored with the collaboration of the Institute National of Civil Aviation (INAC). “In that case we are asking all airlines that all people with the symptoms of the coronavirus that come from other countries on the plane be identified”.

He indicated that those who arrive from abroad to Venezuela must submit their travel form and indicate which countries they have visited and if they present any symptoms.

“At the exit of the international airports we have a team from the Ministry of Health trained to receive the forms, analyze them and make accompaniment, follow-up, diagnosis and treatment if necessary if someone suspected of having the coronavirus virus arrives”.

He also informed that work is being done on the identification of spaces near airports, so that, if necessary, people with the virus can be isolated, which is why intensive therapies and equipment are being activated to attend the cases.
