“The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its solidarity with the people of Puerto Rico in the face of the devastating consequences caused by the recent earthquake in the south of the island and its subsequent aftershocks, causing the loss of at least one life, significant material losses and hundreds of people affected, as well as the collapse of the electrical system.

Natural disasters like this one and like the hurricanes that have hit the Puerto Rican population in the not too distant past, serve to remind the international community of the importance of advancing the decolonization process of the Caribbean nation, and thus guarantee that Puerto Rico has the autonomy and the necessary resources to be able to face these calamities.

On behalf of the Venezuelan people, the Bolivarian Government expresses its condolences to the families of the victims and fraternally accompanies the Puerto Rican people in such difficult circumstances.”
