Opposition deputies request TSJ to annul amendment of Parliament's regulations


A fraction of opposition deputies of the National Assembly (AN) in contempt filed with the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) a request to repeal the amendment to the Internal Regulation of Order and Debate of the parliament that was approved on Tuesday by the self-proclaimed deputy, Juan Guaidó.
The alternate deputy for Yaracuy state, Jesús Gabriel Peña Navas, indicated that the petition they make before the judiciary is due because the amendment to the AN regulation violates the National Constitution and other laws:
“Today we have submitted a document requesting the annuity of the modification to the internal regulation of order and debate of the National Assembly, because we consider it to be a violation of the Constitution and several legal norms of the country”, he said.
In addition, Peña Navas stressed that article 186 of the Constitution establishes that Venezuelans elect in a universal, direct, secret and personalized manner the deputies to the National Assembly and their alternates.
“The modification of this regulation annuls and creates negative precedents in the country, since it repeals the competence and responsibility that we the alternate deputies have to assume the absences of the principal”, added the parliamentarian.
Peña stressed that the Parliament, congresses and legislative assemblies are spaces for debate and the search for concessions on issues that affect Venezuelans, as established by the Magna Carta.
“There can be no debate or consensus when it is established that we can make decisions through the elements of cybernetics, that is, the presence of deputies must be respected”, he said.
In that sense, the opposition deputy pointed out that they expect the Supreme Court of Justice to process the petition and do justice so that compliance with the Constitution and laws is returned.
This Tuesday, December 17, a group of radical parliamentarians of the AN and its leader Juan Guaidó approved a rule to modify the internal and debate regulations, with the aim of allowing the fugitive deputies of the Venezuelan justice to exercise their virtual vote to elect next January 5 the next directive of the parliament.
