Colombia acknowledges Nicolás Maduro's ability to face the economic crisis

Colombian diplomat Francisco Santos described as a “miscalculation” the alleged and “quick” departure of Nicolás Maduro Moros from the Presidency of the Republic, while acknowledging that Colombia “underestimated” the Venezuelan president’s ability to maintain the governance of his country and face the economic crisis.
The information was spread on Monday by the Spanish news agency EFE and immediately replicated by several Latin American newspapers, such as El Comercio of Perú and El Tiempo of Colombia:
“We all made a miscalculation that this was to be resolved more quickly than we all thought”, said Santos, who was vice president of his country during the presidency of Álvaro Uribe Velez, between 2002 and 2010.
He also said that his government also underestimated what he called “the reaction capacity of the Venezuelan economy”.
According to the EFE agency, the ambassador offered the statements during a private breakfast, in which a small group of journalists participated in the Colombian diplomatic headquarters in Washington, USA.
