President Maduro celebrated Venezuela's entry to the Human Rights Council at the UN

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, celebrated the entry of Venezuela into the Human Rights Council of the United Nations (UN), despite threats from the United States to member countries of the organization:
“Today we had a great victory at the UN. Venezuela has been elected to the world in the Human Rights Council. A victory of peace diplomacy, of the Bolivarian diplomacy. A tremendous victory. Facing the plot, the conspiracy, the brutal campaign by the US, which was joined by the International Monetary Fund. Not even with threats. The US government, nor the Lima Group, could not defeat us. Imperialism could not defeat Venezuela. We have had a great victory of dignity, of morality. This is historic”, said the head of state in a joint radio and television broadcast from La Guaira state.
The President praised the work done by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jorge Arreaza, the Venezuelan ambassador to the UN, Samuel Moncada, and all the officials who defended Venezuela in the international organization and raised the truth of the country:
“They could not, nor will they be able to defeat us. A victory of Venezuela, a victory of the people”, stressed the Venezuelan president.
With 105 votes, Venezuela won a seat in the UN Council along with Brazil, who obtained 193 votes by the member states of the General Assembly.
The other country that disputed a seat was Costa Rica, which got 96 votes.
The composition of this council, created in 2006, reflects geographical criteria with 13 seats for Africa, 13 for Asia Pacific, eight for Latin America and the Caribbean, seven for Western Europe and six for Eastern Europe.
Latin America and the Caribbean were responsible for renewing this year two of the eight seats, with Brazil and Cuba being the countries whose membership ends.
