Venezuela reiterates claim on Guayana Esequibo subject to the Geneva agreement

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, through an official statement, reiterated on Thursday its legitimate claim on Guayana Esequibo subject to the Geneva Agreement of February 17, 1966, in addition to ratifying its commitment to a peaceful resolution of this dispute:
“190 years after the nefarious and null decision contained in the Arbitration Award of Paris on October 3, 1899, Venezuela reiterates its legitimate claim on the Guayana Esequibo subject to the Geneva Agreement of 1966 to prevent its dispossession of the national territory”, wrote Chancellor Jorge Arreaza in a message posted on his Twitter account.

“One hundred and twenty years after the nefarious and null decision contained in the Arbitration Award of Paris on October 3, 1899, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reiterates with absolute firmness its historical containment on this fraudulent sentence, in which it is intended to strip our country of their legitimate rights over the territory of Guayana Esequibo.
Venezuela’s just claim is recognized within the United Nations Organization by signing the 1966 Geneva Agreement; international treaty that governs with all its normative force the containment on our Guayana Esequibo.
In this regard, the Bolivarian Government informs the international community that, on September 27, 2019, in the framework of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Vice President of the Republic Delcy Rodríguez, ratified before all the countries of the world, our legitimate claim on Guayana Esequibo subject to the Geneva Agreement of February 17, 1966.
Likewise, the Venezuelan delegation reiterated the commitment of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to a peaceful resolution of this controversy, and invited the Cooperative Republic of Guyana to return to political negotiation in accordance with the provisions of the Geneva Agreement of 1966.
The Bolivarian Government of Venezuela will continue its indeclinable vindication and defense of the legitimate rights of the Republic over Guayana Esequibo in order to reverse the serious historical injustice of the Null and Irritable Award of 1899. In that sense, Venezuela will continue to carry forward in the framework of the Bolivarian Diplomacy of Peace, the protection and defense of national interests over the area constituted by the entire territory located west of the Esequibo River (the area in claim); the maritime projection of the area in claim; and the rights over the rivers and the river provisions referred to in the null and void Award of 1899.
For the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the territorial controversy over the Esequibo deserves a peaceful, prosperous and beneficial resolution for both nations, through a friendly and flexible negotiation, as established by the Geneva Agreement of 1966.”
