Venezuela ratifies convening of ACTO meeting to address the Amazon situation

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jorge Arreaza, sent a message through his account on the Twitter social network to ratify the call of the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela to an extraordinary meeting of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) to evaluate and coordinate concrete decisions to quell the flames that affect the Brazilian Amazon.
After knowing that for weeks the world’s vegetable lung has suffered devastating fires, Venezuela requested an extraordinary meeting of the ACTO on Friday, with the aim of addressing and defining actions to be taken in the situation that arises in the Brazilian Amazon, in which more than 500,000 hectares have been burned.
In the letter, Venezuela reiterated its concern about the situation in the Amazon region, after the forest fires that have been recorded in the area, affecting the indigenous population, ecosystems and biological diversity.
However, some governments of the Amazon region, members of the self-styled Lima Group, opposed the call due to ideological reasons.
