Russia ratifies support for Venezuela against permanent attacks by the US

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigú said on Thursday during a meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart, Vladimir Padrino López, that Moscow supports the independent foreign policy of Caracas and its resistance against Washington’s attempts to promote a coup in the South American country:
“We support the efforts of the leaders of Venezuela to implement an independent foreign policy and to counter US attempts to change the legitimately elected government”, said the Russian minister.
He added that Russia closely follows the events taking place in Venezuela: “We observe an unprecedented pressure from Washington to destabilize the country’s situation”, he said.
Shoigú also stressed that the work of the Venezuelan Government led to the failure of the US plan to organize mass protests and create a greater division in the country’s society, said the RT news agency:
“We believe that only Venezuelans have the right to determine their future. We believe that external intervention, especially in the current extremely tense atmosphere, is unacceptable”, said the minister.
