Sexual diversity community delivered proposal of constitutional rank to the ANC

Constituent deputies, representing the sexual diversity community of Venezuela, delivered on Tuesday to the president of the National Constituent Assembly, Diosdado Cabello, a proposal of constitutional rank relative to the recognition and protection of their rights.
The document was received by the head of the plenipotentiary body in the session of this Tuesday, July 2 at the headquarters of the Federal Legislative Palace, in Caracas, and in the presence of the first vice-president of the body, Gladys Requena.
“We explain that it is a document that was drafted by the Permanent Constitutional Commission, led by Dr. Hermann Escarrá. It is a first work paper on what the movement has needed and today demands as a punctual right. The document must be discussed, we want to deliver it to all the commissions”, said constituent Ysamarys Matute.
The member and leader of the Lesbian Base Venezuela organization, Ingrid Barón, also celebrated this step: “It’s the breakthrough we’ve been waiting for. We appreciate this reception. It’s like the icing on the cake, the culmination of Pride Month”, she described.
The LGBTIQ + activist of the Emancipator Army Collective, Carlos Ascanio, recalled that this proposal was delivered to the constituent Requena on May 17, 2019.
“We hope that the proposal is not shelved, as it was in previous years, and for it to be put on the table to be debated by the commissions”, he said.
Ascanio explained that the approaches include protection, homoparental families, equal marriage, gender identity, protection in health, housing and social issues in general (…) It is a debt of the Venezuelan State, since other sectors have been recognized, such as women, indigenous peoples and people of African descent”, he observed.
