Venezuela denounced to FAO the consequences of the blockade against the right to food

The Chancellor of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, denounced on Tuesday before the United Nations Organization for Food and Agriculture (FAO) the negative effects of the financial, economic and commercial blockade imposed by the United States Government against Venezuela:
“Our country is subject to a blockade but, despite this, our commitment is absolute, we continue to make great efforts in the midst of aggression. This forum is relevant and timely to denounce the attacks on the peoples and especially when those attacks prevent our people from having access to their most fundamental rights such as food and health”, said Arreaza during his speech at the High Level Segment of the 41st session of the FAO Conference, held in Rome, Italy.
The diplomat referred to the existence of several financial institutions in Europe that have blocked more than 6 billion euros for investment in fertilizers and seeds for domestic production.
These attacks have led the Bolivarian Government to look for alternatives to continue serving the Venezuelan people, such as the Local Supply and Production Committees (CLAP), which monthly supply food to 24 million people, said Arreaza.
He also said that more than 5.3 million children receive daily food through the School Feeding Program, and stressed that 924,000 people who are in prisons in the nation receive this benefit.
“The United Nations must raise its voice against the unilateral coercive, illegal measures that harm the peoples and prevent it from continuing to pay for the land to be able to give it health, life and satisfy the needs of our people”, insisted the Venezuelan representative.
