Russia: External factors are a direct threat to the peace and security of Venezuela

The permanent representative of Russia before the United Nations (UN), Vasili Nebenzia, stressed on Wednesday that peace and security in Venezuela is being directly affected by factors external to that nation.
During a debate held at the headquarters of the UN Security Council in New York, where is being discussed the situation of Venezuela, the Russian representative criticized the methods of the United States (US) to address the situation in the Latin American country:
“We have already seen witnesses who speak of terrifying stories of the suffering of the nations in Iraq, Libya and Syria; and it is precisely as the result of Western interference in those countries that real suffering begins, and one that continues to this day”, said Nebenzia.
In his speech, the high Russian official condemned the sanctions and blockades by Washington, because they aim to hamper the South American country’s access to its resources abroad. For Russia it is clear that these sanctions seek to impede the end of the crisis in Venezuela.
Regarding the humanitarian assistance that has been requested from the UN, Nebenzia said that these actions should be endorsed by the legitimate authorities of the Venezuelan State, while referring that the stability and peace of the country will only be resolved through a national dialogue.
In that sense, Moscow joined Maduro’s call to activate the Montevideo Mechanism, an initiative of Mexico, Uruguay and the Caribbean Community (Caricom), to initiate a dialogue in Venezuela.
