Citizen Power condemns attempted coup d'état and foreign interference

The Attorney General of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, representing the country’s Citizen Power, condemned on Thursday the attempted coup d’état promoted by the right wing against the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro.
This is related to the acts carried out on January 23, by the deputy of the National Assembly – in contempt since 2016 – Juan Guaidó, who proclaimed himself as “president in charge” of Venezuela during an opposition demonstration in Caracas.
Saab condemned that the National Assembly would act as a puppet from the US. and violates the framework of legality established in the Constitution, pretending to form a government parallel to the legal and legitimately constituted one, represented by Maduro.
“We the Citizen power, as part of the national public power with the function of promoting solidarity, freedom and democracy, (…) reject any foreign interference in our country, Venezuela is sovereignly free and independent”, he said.
The Attorney General said that Venezuela “is capable of resolving our differences and we will do it in peace.”
In addition, he reiterated his support for the Government of Nicolás Maduro, who was elected on May 20, 2018 with 67 percent of the popular votes, for the 2019-2025 term.
