Venezuela presents achievements of GMVV before UN-Habitat

The Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), Maimunah Mohd Sharif, expressed her willingness to provide cooperation and support to the programs carried out by Venezuela in the field of housing construction.

This statement was offered by Mohd Sharif during a meeting with the Deputy Minister for Africa of the Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs, Yuri Pimentel, who is currently on a work tour to strengthen and strengthen the cooperation ties between Venezuela and several countries of the African continent.

There, the director of the UN-Habitat program stressed that the social policy undertaken by the Caribbean nation in housing construction through the Great Mission Housing Venezuela (GMVV) is a model that serves to benefit the peoples of the Caribbean.

To strengthen this sector in Venezuela, Mohd Sharif extended an invitation to the national Government to participate in May 2019 at the meeting of senior UN-Habitat officials to be held in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.

For his part, Deputy Minister Yuri Pimentel took the opportunity to present the experience of Venezuela in matters of housing, which has benefited more than 2 million Venezuelan families, of which 20% have been assigned to a group of immigrant families that reside in the country.

This project, designed by Commander Hugo Chávez and which was launched in 2011, not only involves the construction of houses, but also a whole project to re-conceptualize human settlements, which involves, from the community organization, new modes of relationship and sustainability. environment, creative spaces and socio-productive developments, as explained Pimentel in his speech.

Finally, the Venezuelan official invited the director of UN-Habitat to come to Venezuela so that she knows directly the experience in the field of housing construction and expressed the willingness to receive the subsequent accompaniment and recognition of this international organization.
