JVR highlighted importance of dialogue for the proper functioning of democracy

The journalist and political analyst José Vicente Rangel reflected this Sunday on the importance of participation and dialogue for the proper functioning of democratic institutions:

“Not having a creative, reliable, deeply critical opposition, and at the same time one that is respectful in the constitutional order that represents the broad sector that always exists in the political system, something that has happened during the Bolivarian process, is a problem that affects all Venezuelans, for the lack of a conscious opposition leader, responsible for the functioning of democratic institutions; because the conduction of a nation is a shared act that equally commits rulers as well as opponents”, he emphasized on his “José Vicente Hoy” (José Vicente Today) program, broadcast by Televen.

He mentioned that two decades after the rise of Chavismo into power, and the successes achieved in the social and participatory scopes, it is unfortunate that the dialogue has not prospered as a basic mechanism to coexist in a civilized way, “therefore, in Venezuela what prevails is a powerful claim for peace, and a will to take this country forward”, he added.

Rangel also said that the Venezuelan right wing seems to be willing to lose a new opportunity to correct their mistakes and overcome the crisis that surrounds them, by not participating in the municipal elections on December 9.
