Putin rejects terrorist methods applied against Venezuela

The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, referred to the situation in Venezuela stating that: “terrorist methods to overthrow power in the country are unacceptable.”

During his speech at the international forum “Energy Week of Russia”, the president said that Venezuela should be given the opportunity to define its destiny on its own, and that it is only the Venezuelan people who must decide whether President Nicolás Maduro should leave office or not:

“That must be determined by the people of Venezuela itself, and no one else in the world”, said Putin. “Regarding the various tools to influence the situation in Venezuela, they should not be the kind that aggravates the situation of the civilian population. It is a matter of principles”, he added.

The Russian leader stressed that any attempts to influence the situation in Venezuela from abroad with the aim of worsening the situation are unacceptable:

“It is not possible to go and trample like an elephant in a china shop without understanding what is really happening, only thinking that the elephant is the largest and most intelligent animal”, he commented on the external interventions in the South American country.

“We must observe and give the people the opportunity to resolve the situation on their own”, he argued.

“Against him [Maduro] there was a terrorist attack, an attempt to assassinate him. Are we also going to approve these forms of political struggle? I think that is absolutely unacceptable. Neither one thing, nor the other, nor anything alike”, summed up Putin.
