Defense Ministers of Brazil and Venezuela strengthen friendship ties

The Minister of People’s Power for Defense, Vladimir Padrino López, and his Brazilian counterpart, Joaquín Silva, held a meeting on Tuesday with the aim of strengthening ties of friendship and addressing issues of binational interest.

After the meeting that took place in Puerto Ordaz, Bolívar state, Padrino López indicated that they analyzed different issues that affect Latin America: “We insist on the South American Defense Council as a valid instrument to discuss on a table any situation of threat in our region”, he said.

He said that: “We must work closely, resume efforts and bilateral cooperation agencies at this level, to promote educational exchange and move towards the path of our self-determination”.

For his part, the Minister of Defense of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Joaquim Silva e Luna, said that this conclave was “an act of confidence for the reconstruction of joint work for both countries and for our entire region”.

“Venezuela and Brazil are united not only by our borders, but by our friendship built from the time of formation of our nationality. Both peoples fought together for the formation of our countries. It has been a rich, warm and trusting relationship”, he said.

Silva indicated that they agreed “to raise the level of relations between both armies” and that the intention is to carry out “meetings and work groups, increasing the courses we do in schools to expand our cooperation.”
