The frustrated assassination against the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, held on Saturday August 4, was an attack against the entire civil and military political high command of Venezuela to create a power vacuum, to justify a foreign intervention with international support and thus mount an illegitimate government, as denounced on Monday Tareck William Saab, Attorney General of the Republic.
During an interview on the “Con Amorin” (With Amorin) program, broadcast by VTV, Saab told how the drone attack occurred during the commemoration of the 81st anniversary of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB).
“The excuse is perfect, here the civil and military high command of Venezuela was to be beheaded, an occupation military action is justified, they would say: ‘dissuasive’ ‘preventive’. The blue helmets would enter, they would invent anything to impose a de facto government totally, according to my criteria, alien to the constitutionality that the people have been given”, he denounced.
He pointed out that the decision of the people who elected Nicolás Maduro as president must be respected. For this reason, he criticized the attitude of the political sectors that, since they cannot win in elections, they disown the institutions and promote violent actions, such as it occurred in 2014 or 2017.
In this regard, he invited the opposition spokesmen to publicly reject and pronounce themselves against this assassination attempt that sought a foreign intervention against Venezuela.
“(That) plan on which Venezuela could effectively be occupied by, even if they talk about international law, with a legal basis, with support from multilateral organizations, from foreign intervention, which they have always wanted, that must have a public condemnation of the opposition factors”, he said.
The prosecutor described the assassination attempt as an action that sought to cause a massacre because it was directed against President Maduro and about 100 people who accompanied him on Saturday, August 4.
He recalled that this magnicidal plan had drones -neutralized by the presidential securitywith inhibitors of telephone signals-laden with explosives and shrapnel.
“They are serial killers, they knew what they were going to do, therefore, there must be justice in full right. We have already made the respective accusations to those who have been presented”, he said.
For these facts there are 10 arrested and 13 requested. However, the prosecutor reported that the detainees have offered statements that provide new elements. He mentioned that there are many implications and that in a press conference to be held this Tuesday morning will specify the data.
