Venezuela denounced at the UN military threat by the US

The Permanent Ambassador of Venezuela to the United Nations (UN), Jorge Valero, denounced this Sunday before the Human Rights Council (HRC), the pretenses of the Government of the United States to militarily invade this South American country.

He also rejected the positions of some countries that have supported the multifaceted aggressions by the US Government against Venezuela.

Valero condemned the self-appointed Lima Group, made up of 12 nations (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Saint Lucia, Paraguay and Peru) – characterized by its permanent attacks on the Bolivarian Revolution and by interfering in Venezuelan internal affairs – issued a new declaration in the Human Rights Council, plagued by lies against Venezuela:

“Which of the countries that signed the declaration against our country have rejected or shown any concern about this threat?” asked Valero, quoted in a press release by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MPPRE).

He noted that these governments echo the pseudo report prepared by the High Commissioner for Human Rights, to exacerbate interventionism against Venezuela.

He recalled that US President Donald Trump “has threatened Venezuela with a military invasion,” and asked the Human Rights Council the following question: “Which of the countries that signed the declaration against our country have rejected or expressed any concern about this threat?”.

He stressed that the economic and social difficulties that impact the quality of life of the Venezuelan people have been provoked -mainly- by the interventionist action of the US Government, with the imposition of unilateral coercive measures and the induction of a bloody economic war, with the purpose of generating the conditions for a foreign military intervention.

“The US sanctions prohibit Venezuela from accessing the purchase of medicines, food and capital goods produced in other countries, constituting serious violations of human rights, as they cause death and pain to Venezuelan families”, he warned, quoted in the bulletin.

Valero said Venezuela deplores that the countries that have signed the aforementioned Declaration, have not spoken out “against these illegal, immoral and criminal measures”, as well as the terrorist violence that Venezuela experienced as a result of the seditious plans.

“We regret that this Council is intended to accommodate pseudo illegal, unilateral reports and without a mandate against countries of the South”, he said.

The ambassador explained that the report against Venezuela was not ordered by any competent intergovernmental organ of the UN, much less by the Human Rights Council, which is why Venezuela rejects it and disowns it, both in form and content.

Ambassador Valero reminded the Council of the recent visit to Venezuela of independent expert Alfred de Zayas, who noted and stated that in the country, there is no humanitarian crisis but an economic war that affects the quality of life of the people.

He reaffirmed that in Venezuela human rights and fundamental freedoms are respected, “so that today peace reigns and progress is made in an inclusive political dialogue, promoted by President Nicolás Maduro Moros”.
