Venezuela rejects report of the UN Human Rights High Commissioner

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejects the Report, which accuses the Government of Venezuela, on the alleged human rights situation within the national territory, which was published by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The statement was published by the Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Jorge Arreaza, on his personal account on the Twitter social network, @jaarreaza, where he notes that: “once again it shows how that Office lends itself to the aggression and the blockade against Venezuela”.

The Venezuelan Government considers that this report was made without the mandate of the UN Human Rights Council and, therefore, is an arbitrary action that violates the regulations of the organization.

Following, the full text:

“The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the Report on the alleged situation of human rights in the country, published by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, as a result of a highly questionable methodology that buries the credibility and technical rigor required for an Office of that nature and which violates the principles of objectivity, impartiality and non-selectivity.

The alleged report is further evidence of the absolute disregard for the institutional framework and the international legal framework that has characterized Mr. Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, during the somber exercise of his mandate as United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

It is a report on a member state of the UN, without the express mandate of the Human Rights Council or the General Assembly. Therefore, the aforementioned document constitutes an arbitrary act that violates the Office’s own operating rules and usurps the attributions that correspond to other UN bodies.

In its marked obsession against Venezuela, the High Commissioner deliberately omits proceedings and conclusions of special procedures of the Human Rights Council itself, which dismantle the slander of the recent and politicized report. Among the procedures ignored, are the conclusions of the Independent Expert of the Human Rights Council, Alfred De Zayas, and the Rapporteur on the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of Human Rights.

Mr. Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein confirms his complicity with the multiform aggression that is underway against Venezuela, remaining silent in the face of the negative impact on the enjoyment of economic, social and cultural rights generated by the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the government of the United States of America and its servile allies in the region and in the world, ignoring the broad UN doctrine on this subject.

It should be noted that all the official information that the Bolivarian Government has provided has been intentionally ruled out in the report of the Office of the High Commissioner in order to build a grotesque media farce in this matter, in alliance with other multilateral actors at the service of Washington.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reiterates its inescapable commitment to Human Rights in the terms established in the Venezuelan Constitution and international treaties validly subscribed and ratified by the Republic, as well as its willingness to continue cooperating with the organs of the United Nations system in matters of Human Rights, provided that the sovereignty of the country is respected and that it acts in accordance with rigor and truth.”
