Venezuela repudiates EU interventionist statements about the 20M elections

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela repudiated the conclusions issued this Monday by the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union (EU) on the Presidential and legislative councils elections held on Sunday, May 20 in the Caribbean country.

“Venezuela reiterates that no instance of the European Union, as well as any of its member Governments, has any legal competence, much less any moral authority, to question the decisions that the Venezuelan people take in the free exercise of their democracy”, reads a statement issued by the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry on its website.

On May 20, Venezuelans elected the President of the Ample Front of the Homeland, Nicolás Maduro, President of the Republic after reaching 67.84% of the votes, a total of 6,245,862 votes in elections that counted on the participation of 9,368,035 people.

“The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly repudiates the conclusions of the Council of Foreign Affairs of the European Union, issued this Monday, May 28, 2018, through which they intend to question the Venezuelan electoral process of May 20, 2018, where was reelected by ample and unquestionable majority of votes President Nicolás Maduro.

The European Union thus confirms the hostile and hostile attitude of its Foreign Affairs Council, due to the obvious subordination to the erratic foreign policy of the Donald Trump Administration towards Venezuela. No instance of the European Union, as well as any of its member Governments, has any legal competence, let alone demonstrable moral authority, to question the decisions that the Venezuelan people take in the free exercise of their democracy. The European institutions should concentrate their efforts on addressing and resolving the innumerable and serious social, political, migratory and economic problems and conflicts that directly afflict the European peoples, before which are not foreseen viable and acceptable solutions.

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will always seek to maintain relations of mutual respect and full cooperation with the European Union and its member states. However, Venezuela remembers that it will never accept interference from any foreign power and that its destiny rests exclusively in the hands of Venezuelans and Venezuelans. The stagnant European colonial empires were expelled forever from Our Americas two centuries ago, through admirable and victorious processes of independence and liberation. May not pretend, then, the old Europe, two hundred years later, to reissue extemporaneous ambitions of domination in free, sovereign and independent peoples and territories”.
