US Charge d’Affaires in Venezuela declared as persona non grata

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, declared as persona non grata to the charge d’affaires of the United States (USA) in Venezuela, Todd Robinson, and to the advisory minister of the US embassy, Brian Naranjos, for engaging in interventionist actions against the nation.

The announcement was made this Tuesday by the Venezuelan President during his proclamation as head of state for the period 2019-2025, which took place at the headquarters of the National Electoral Council (CNE) in Caracas.

The measure contemplates the departure of the territory by US officials in a period not exceeding 48 hours.

During the announcement Maduro explained that this measure is due to the fact that the United States Government intends to continue escalating its aggressions against Venezuela and reported that the position of sectors of the right wing not to attend the elections of May 20 responded to a decision of the Government of the United States.

“I have evidences, there are testimonies that the Charge d’ Affaires of the US, Todd Robinson, meddled in the internal affairs of Venezuelan politics; that he along with Mr. Brian Naranjo, head of the political section and representative of the CIA in the US embassy, combined to personally press all those who announced themselves as presidential candidates”, he revealed.
