Statements by Santos are against the Venezuelan people

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, rejected the statements of his Colombian counterpart according to which he would not acknowledge the results of the presidential elections to be held in the country.

“His statement (by Juan Manuel Santos) goes against the people. He is telling the millions of men and women who will vote on Sunday, May 20, that he does not acknowledge the people of Venezuela. We do not give a damn about Juan Manuel Santos”, responded the Head of State during an activity in Táchira state.

The President said that the Venezuelan people are standing and reiterated that the country is free, independent and sovereign.

“When imperialism attacks our Homeland I feel a deep indignation, when the oligarchy of Bogota attacks Venezuela I feel a deep indignation”, he said.

He said that this year more than 80 social leaders have been murdered in Colombia, a fact silenced by the world press; also detailed that poverty has increased by 55% during the Santos Government; He added that misery is around 35%.

He recalled that in Venezuela there are 5,600,000 Colombians, displaced by the war and repression in Colombia, of which more than 1,200,000 have migrated to Venezuela during the eight years of the Santos Government.
