Venezuela and Panama reestablish diplomatic relations

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, announced on Thursday that after talks with his Panamanian counterpart Juan Carlos Varela, both countries reestablish diplomatic relations.

During a brief press conference broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, from the Poliedro de Caracas, he explained that the ambassadors’ return to their respective embassies was agreed; to resume flights with all airlines as of this Friday, and to deliver a report in 30 days to solve the problems and pending issues between the two Governments to be channeled and resolved.

“This is good news. I thank President Juan Carlos Valera, we were friends as chancellors and we have had good communication as Presidents, we have differences of opinion on many issues, but we have agreed to have the best bilateral relations and thus try to channel our differences and problems in the best way”, he said.

The national leader thanked the President of the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina, for his diplomatic intermediation and for having helped to turn the page between Panama and Venezuela.

COMMUNIQUÉ:

The Governments of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Republic of Panama, in hopes of maintaining constructive bilateral relations and thus favor the welfare of their citizens, agree:

1.- To re-establish the presence of the Ambassador of Panama accredited in Venezuela, and of Venezuela accredited inPanama.

2.- To re-establish the air connectivity.

3.- To maintain the open and respectful diplomatic dialogue, in order to keep working on the diverse aspects of the bilateral agenda.

Regarding this, the Chancellors from both countries will render, thirty days from now, and advance report to the Presidents.
