The Chancellor of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, reported on Tuesday that a letter was sent to the Spanish Government through the Deputy Minister for Europe, Yvan Gil, for the restoration of diplomatic relations with that nation.
Arreaza said that, despite constant attacks by the Spanish Government, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has reiterated his willingness to open spaces for dialogue, based on respect, to restore diplomatic ties and friendship between both nations.
This was reported by the chancellor during a press conference held on Wednesday in Brussels after holding a meeting with the head of European diplomacy, Federica Mogherini.
On the other hand, on behalf of Venezuela, he called on the international community to respect the country and the decisions that its people may sovereignly adopt: «The only one that has to recognize the electoral results is the people of Venezuela and the National Electoral Council», he said.
