If the opposition does not register, there will still be elections and a legitimate President

“Venezuela has the structural, institutional, political and spiritual strength to have good, participatory and peaceful elections”, said on Thursday the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, who will stand for re-election on April 22. when new presidential elections are held in the country.

In this regard, he ratified – during the press conference with international media that took place this Thursday at Miraflores Palace, headquarters of the Executive Branch – that the country will live an electoral party on April 22.

He pointed out that if the Venezuelan opposition decides not to register in the presidential elections, there will be elections in the country anyway, and a Head of State chosen in a legitimate way.

“If the opposition does not register, what will happen in Venezuela? There will be elections and there will be a legitimate President-elect who will govern the country until 2025”, he said.

Maduro reiterated on this occasion, after the announcement made on Wednesday, that the Venezuelan State will reopen its consulate in Miami, closed since January 2012, after authorities of the US Department of State declared persona non grata to the Venezuelan consul in Miami .

On this point, he added that the order was already given to the Chancellor of the Republic, Jorge Arreaza, who is on a tour through countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, to guarantee Venezuelans who are out of the country the full exercise of their right to vote.

He also noted that until February 25 will be extended the special day registration and update of data in the Electoral Registry abroad, according to the schedule announced by the National Electoral Council.
