The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, paid tribute to the people who on Sunday manifested massively in the streets of Caracas their support for the Bolivarian Revolution, on the occasion of the commemoration of the Day of National Dignity on the 26th anniversary of the civic-military rebellion of February 4, 1992, led by Hugo Chávez.
«Today, on the Day of National Dignity, there has been a wonderful demonstration of the people’s power, of love for the Homeland, and today we can say that February 4 is more alive than ever, that Chavez is more alive than ever in His people made power, deployed in the streets, squares and avenues of Caracas», he said from the popular rally held outside the Miraflores Palace, in Caracas.
«The rebellion of February 4 is today more valid than ever. February 4 is more future than past, and it must be every day, against the economic war and imperialism», said the Head of State.
On February 4, 1992, then-Lieutenant-Colonel Hugo Chávez led a civil-military rebellion against President Carlos Andrés Pérez, of the right-wing Acción Democrática (AD) party, and the neoliberal policies applied by his administration against the people.
That day, Chávez publicly assumed his responsibility, addressed the country through the media and manifested the famous «Por Ahora» (for now), a phrase he turned into the hope of a people.
