Rodríguez: EU obeyed US designs to attack Venezuela

“The elite that governs the European Union obediently obeyed the designs given by the administration of Donald Trump’s Government to attack the Venezuelan Homeland and attack the dialogue table between the Bolivarian Government and the opposition”.

This was stated on Monday by the Vice President for Communication and Culture and head of the delegation of the Bolivarian Government for the peace dialogue, Jorge Rodríguez, referring to the sanctions announced by the European Union against seven Venezuelan high officials, whom he described as embarrassing

“The sanctions of the European Union against seven honorable and worthy Venezuelans are a blow to the process of dialogue for peace that is being developed in the Dominican Republic,” said Rodriguez, referring to the meetings that were being held with the support of chancellors from several countries and the former president of the Spanish Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.

The head of the office for Communication and Information, said that these sanctions are part of the attacks against the Venezuelan democracy by the centers of power.

He said that this interventionist action directly attacks the dialogue. One of the points put on the table, by the Bolivarian Government, is that the opposition interfere with the governments and international organizations that systematically attack the country, with sanctions that have been promoted by representatives of the Venezuelan right wing.

“As soon as last Saturday, January 13, when the representatives of the Venezuelan Government and the right wing were about to sign an agreement, they began the crass pressures of the centers of power that hate to see how Venezuelans settle their affairs through constitutional and peaceful means”, said Rodríguez.

The senior official said that just before signing the agreement at the dialogue table, the delegation representing the opposition refused to do so because of pressure from the Donald Trump administration.

“There was so much pressure, that the undersecretary of State for Political Affairs of the United States, Thomas Shannon, went to Spain to order President Mariano Rajoy to perpetrate sanctions against Venezuela”, he said.
