CNE installed international accompaniment program for municipalities

The rector of the National Electoral Council, Sandra Oblitas, said on Thursday that the international accompaniment will be able to witness closely how transparent democracy develops in Venezuela, thanks to the municipal elections that will be held this Sunday, December 10.

She recalled that this is the third election to be held in 2017 and will allow a total of 335 mayors to be elected, plus the Governor of Zulia state, for which a total of 32,805 polling stations have been distributed in 14,384 polling stations throughout the National territory.

In his opinion, the conduction of three electoral processes in less than six months shows the organizational capacity of the Venezuelan State, with the National Electoral Council (CNE) at the head, to guarantee the free exercise of vote, she said.

The information was provided during the meeting between the authorities of the CNE, at the start of the program of international electoral accompaniment for the municipal elections, held at the headquarters of the Electoral Power, in Caracas.

“Today we start international electoral accompaniment. Today we receive members from various bodies of the countries that visit us, everyone is welcome”, emphasized Oblitas.

Oblitas highlighted: “this process we have done amidst a wave of threats from those who do not believe in voting as a democratic tool. However, our duty is, and will always be, to accompany the realization of the will of the people through the vote”.

Finally, he pointed out that those who have tried to prevent these municipal elections from being held, “have not been able to break the commitment and participation of the people.”
