“I declare myself in battle against those who intend to insurrect and confront the electoral system”

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, declared himself in battle in defense of the elections for mayors that will be held in December, on the basis of statements made by opposition political organizations that publicly call to sabotage the Venezuelan electoral system .

“The voices of those who are calling to sabotage the electoral process appear on the stage (…) Some spokespersons of the right wing intend to question the electoral process and call for an insurrection against the elections of mayors”, he denounced from the first session of the Federal Government Council after the regional elections of October 15.

During his speech, he highlighted the strength of the Venezuelan electoral system and called on all the people to defend it.

“The electoral system is fully guaranteed, in any condition and, in addition, are already running the verification processes prior to the voting process (…) the people know that their will is guaranteed,” he said, recalling that throughout the process of the regional elections the Minutes of the previous audits, during and after the process, were signed by all political organizations in the country, including those of the opposition.

He argued that it is not possible that the opposition, due to “opportunistic issues”, intends to attack the electoral system, an attitude that he qualified as illegal, unconstitutional and criminal. He asserted that those who attack the Electoral Power will have to pay with the sanctions contemplated in law.

“I promise that there will be justice in Venezuela, against those who claim to undermine from today the electoral process to which the Venezuelan people is entitled in the month of December, to elect its mayors. I declare myself in battle against those who intend to insurrection and confront the Venezuelan electoral system. In a legal, constitutional, political, electoral battle”, he said, and added that he will work in defense of peace.

He expressed that there are enough places in the prisons for those who want to insubordinate against the legitimate power of the country.
