Venezuelan opposition lacks credibility in the population

The obscure dependence of the opposition on the part of its allies abroad, particularly the United States, and the lack of a clear message to the population that is based on government proposals for the country’s development, have caused a negative and deplorable impact, which is translated in the loss of credibility towards them on the part of the majority of the Venezuelan population.

This was explained on Sunday by the journalist José Vicente Rangel during the “Confidentials” section of his program “José Vicente Hoy” (José Vicente Today), broadcast by Televen, where he opined that the absence of a clear, notable campaign and public mobilization of relevance by the opposition, contrasted with the thousands of events in which the candidates of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) took part in the electoral victory in the regional elections of October 15, where they obtained 18 of the 23 Governorates of the country.

Rangel said that the self-called Democratic Unity Board (MUD) based its electoral strategy on the same one they used in 2015, when the parliamentary elections were held.

“Their candidates for governors practically did not make public campaign, just as its leaders did not act in mobilizations, or public marches. It was remarkable the difference of this kind of campaigns, compared with the thousands of public acts in which the candidates of the PSUV, national leaders of this party and those of the Great Patriotic Polo (GPP) participated”, he said.

In his analysis, Rangel commented that the reiterated position of the right wing to disown the electoral results whenever they lose, causes confusion and internal conflicts in their followers, as they move between violent and antidemocratic exits, then they call to vote as a way to a political change.

“There have been various internal opinion trends, criticism ranging from the most radical ones that raise (the scenario of a) fraud, and the armed option in the streets, up to personalities who are in favor of dialogue to prevent the country from repeating events like those that occurred during the four months of the “guarimbas” (riots)”, he said.
