Samper: Commission of Truth and Justice bets on path of dialogue

From Miraflores Palace in Caracas, the secretary general of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), Ernesto Samper, said that “The Commission of Truth and justice offers the Venezuelans a sincere path of dialogue, polarization is not the way, we come from a country with an armed conflict due to confrontation, that is why I was sincerely supporting the dialogue here. ”
During the installation of the commission, Samper said that despite UNASUR has proposed an institutional dialogue in Venezuela, the agency is very clear on the fact that there are the Venezuelans who, in the exercise of their sovereignty, must resolve the situation being faced today by the South american country.
“This problem is of the Venezuelans, and the solution has to come from the Venezuelans themselves,” he said. In a personal way, he lamented that the Law of Amnesty does not provide for the victims of the different situations of violence that have been lived in the country.
He added that in the Commission of Truth and Justice converge three elements: truth, reparation and justice that are confirmed and they have to combine to produce a final result, which is reconciliation.
The Presidential Commission for Truth, Justice and Reparation for Victims will have as its central objective the pursuit of peace and justice, reparation for victims and ensuring the non-recurrence of coups d’etat, “guarimbas” (Street riot barricades) and attacks in the country.
It will be chaired by the Vice President of the Republic, Aristobulo Isturiz, and comes in response to the so-called Law of Amnesty and National Reconciliation, approved by the right wing factions in the National Assembly (NA) to forgive crimes against humanity committed from 1999 to today, including those who were executed during the events of the coup d’etat of 2002, and to promote impunity and oblivion.
