Venezuela and Spain agreed to advance in a bilateral work agenda

The Chancellor of the Republic, Jorge Arreaza met this Wednesday in Madrid, Spain, with his Spanish counterpart, Alfonso Dastis.

At that meeting, the Head of the national diplomacy greeted the support of Foreign Minister Dastis to the dialogue process between the Government and the opposition in Venezuela, sponsored by the former President of the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina, and the Former president of the Spanish government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.

Regarding the meeting, the Venezuelan Chancellory issued a statement highlighting the Bolivarian Government’s desire to “build relations based on respect for the principles of cooperation, international law, non-interference in internal affairs and self-determination of peoples”, as expressed by Minister Arreaza to his Spanish counterpart.

The Chancellor of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza Montserrat, held today in Madrid a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain, Alfonso Dastis. Various issues of the relationship between the two countries were addressed in a frank and friendly environment.

The ministers exchanged views on the political process of the two states, the Venezuelan Chancellor expressed to his Spanish counterpart the need to build relations based on respect for the principles of cooperation, international law, non-interference in internal affairs and self-determination of peoples.

The Venezuelan Chancellor expressed concern about the misconception on the Venezuelan reality that is being projected in Spain, which has resulted in numerous statements against the Bolivarian Government and the Constituent Process in our country.

Minister Arreaza stressed the inconvenience of protecting sectors that sabotage dialogue and promote violence, since a sincere support for dialogue is required. In this regard, he took the opportunity to salute the support of Chancellor Dastis, to the dialogue process in Venezuela, promoted by President Nicolas Maduro Moros and sponsored by the President of the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina, and former President Rodríguez Zapatero.

It was emphasized that perseverance in the call for dialogue from Venezuela and for the peaceful settlement of internal conflicts brought as a result, immediately after the election of the National Constituent Assembly, the social and political peace throughout the national territory.

Finally, the Foreign Ministers agreed to continue working together to ensure the smooth development of relations between Spain and Venezuela and to advance a bilateral work agenda towards the immediate future.
