«Venezuela has the full right to attend any international forum and present its advances, self-criticism and challenges in the area of Human Rights, without being impeded by any other nation, even if it is a foreign power …» With these words responded the General Attorney of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, to the statements of the United States representative at the UN, who described as a «mockery» the presence of Venezuelan Chancellor Jorge Arreaza at the session of the Human Rights Council, to be held the next Monday in Geneva.
Saab reminded Nikki Haley that: «Venezuela does not invade countries; does not threaten to bomb nations, does not threaten to occupy territories, to appropriate their wealth as the United States has done with Afghanistan, Iran, Libya and Panama», and thus he qualified as pernicious the double morality of the US Government when speaking of human rights .
He also noted that the country surpasses the United States in a 70% in the number of agreements subscribed in Human Rights matters.
On the other hand, the Attorney General described as «execrable» the international tour undertaken by the president and vice president of the National Assembly, Julio Borges and Freddy Guevara, respectively, to request the invasion of the country. «It has the unanimous condemnation of the country.»
