Bolivarian Government rejects statements by the president of France

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, through a communiqué issued by the Foreign Ministry, rejected the interventionist statements of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, issued on Tuesday during a meeting with ambassadors in the city of Paris.

The French President said that resources in Venezuela, despite the current crisis, remain “considerable”. “Our fellow citizens do not understand how some have been so accommodating to the regime that is being set up in Venezuela”, said Macron.

The French leader joins the list of leaders who seek to control democracy in Venezuela after the election of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC), endorsed by more than 8 million Venezuelans.

A week ago, the French Foreign Ministry “condemned” the decision of the Constituent Assembly to assume some powers of the National Assembly, for being the latter in contempt according to the Supreme Court of Justice, the maximum instance of legal interpretation.

He qualified the democratic Government of President Nicolás Maduro as a “dictatorship” and assured that the situation is “worrying”.

Following, the complete communiqué:

BOLIVARIAN REPUBLIC OF VENEZUELA

MINISTRY OF THE PEOPLE’S POWER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS

COMMUNIQUÉ:

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its firm rejection of the regrettable statements made by President Emmanuel Macron during a meeting with Ambassadors in the city of Paris on August 29, 2017, which constitute a clear interference in the internal affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

Statements such as these attempt against the Venezuelan institutions and appear to be dragged by the permanent imperial obsession to attack our people, ignoring the most basic principles of international law. These aggressions do not contribute to the good state of the relations that we have historically maintained and cultivated between the two countries.

The Venezuelan Government demands the French Government to respect its democracy, built on the basis of universal republican principles and supported by popular sovereignty. The pronouncement of President Macron constitutes an injury to the People and to the democratically elected Government of Venezuela, as well as to its institutions.

The statements by the French Head of State reveal a deep ignorance of the Venezuelan reality, whose people are in absolute peace after the popular election of the sovereign National Constituent Assembly, while a new electoral process is organized to elect regional rulers as mandated by the National Constitution, with the participation of all the political factors of the country.

We urge the French Government to return to the sensible position of supporting the process of National Dialogue, without interference in internal affairs, respecting the right to self-determination of our People, and laying the foundations of good bilateral relations.
