Law against Intolerance will establish media responsibility on dissemination of hate messages

The President of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC), Delcy Rodríguez, stressed that one of the aspects that will be included in the Law against Hate, Intolerance and for Peaceful Coexistence, is the determination of the responsibility of the media in the dissemination of messages of hatred and intolerance.

“There must be accountability, and actions must be taken”, she said during the first open debate of the ANC held this Sunday at the Ezequiel Zamora Park, in Caracas, to address the legislative project along with the people.

Rodríguez said that they review laws in this regard issued by Ecuador and Germany, against hate messages broadcast in media and digital networks. “These are experiences that we are reviewing, observing, in order to nurture this law in Venezuela”, she said.

She emphasized that the German ruling provides that for social networks must be given a span of 24 hours for the company providing the service, the social networks, to remove the message of hate. “I think 24 hours is a long time to inoculate hatred”, said Rodriguez.

She also stressed that another element to be included to eradicate hatred is the promotion of education based on the values of love, to promote the recognition of others and tolerance.
