Regional elections 2017: 226 postulates to 23 Governorates

The President of the CNE, Tibisay Lucena, made an advance on the nominations process for the regional elections.

She recalled that by mandate of the ANC – the highest instance of the Original Constituent Power – the Electoral Power is making adjustments to carry out the elections for Governors in October.

Regarding the nominations process, it was reported that the regional boards complied with the deadlines for nominations, set between August 13 and 15.

As a result of this process, were nominated 76 organizations for political purposes, 21 national and 55 regional, and 51 independent nominations. The total number of candidates and nominees is 226.

Of the organizations that applied for candidates nationwide in 23 states are: PSUV, PCV, AD, Voluntad Popular, Avanzada Progresista, Copei, MAS, Primero Justicia, NCR, PPT, Tupamaro, UNT and MEP; In 22 states: Movimiento Politico Alianza para el Cambio and Nueva Visión para mi País (NUVIPA); In 21 states: Unidad Politica Popular 89 and the Union y Entendimiento Party; In 20 states: Independientes por el Progreso; In 19 states: UPV.

She reported that the CNE is working to ensure that the entire country can know the schedule of the process in which the regional representatives will be elected.

Lucena said that Wednesday, August 16, was carried out the audit process to the electoral register, on Thursday, the national ballot position will be chosen at the headquarters, and on Friday, August 18, will be carried out the process with the political organizations in the regional offices.

Smartmatic Case:

When asked about the Smartmatic issue and their services provided to the CNE, Lucena said that the electoral body has a great experience and is developing a relationship with another company that will supply the technical support service.

She reiterated that the aforementioned company did not participate in the totalization process, which is carried out exclusively by the CNE.
