President Maduro respects and supports substitute measure declared by TSJ to Leopoldo López

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, said this Saturday that he supports the decision of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) to grant house for imprisonment to the opposition leader Leopoldo López, which implies that he will continue to pay in his home his sentence of almost 14 years in prison, for committing crimes of public instigation, property damage, arsoning and association to commit crime during the execution of the insurrectional plan “La Salida” (The Exit), in 2014.

“Yesterday the Supreme Court of Justice took a decision, I, as Head of State, took their decision and supported the substitute measure of house for imprisonment,” said the National President, while remembering that the leader is punished by responsibility of the Prosecutor General of the Republic, clarifying that he, as Head of State, does not intervene in any of the decisions of the powers of the country.

During a meeting with oil workers for the Constituent Assembly in Anzoátegui, he expressed that he hopes that the measure proposed by the Commission for Truth, Justice and Peace will help López rectify on his call for violence and promote dialogue for peace in the country.

“I hope this measure is understood and Mr. Leopoldo López launches a message of rectification and peace, because the country wants peace. Meanwhile, we are in the Constituent moment”, he emphasized.

Finally, he emphasized that despite the attacks of the right wing to the TSJ, the judicial body “is balanced and exercises its power, independent from the factual, economic and imperialist powers”.
