On July 4 will be held hearing before the TSJ for merits trial against prosecutor Ortega Díaz

On July 4, will be held the oral and public hearing for the preliminary hearing of merits against Attorney General Luisa Ortega Díaz, before the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), after having been unanimously approved by the Plenary Chamber the precautionary measures interposed by the deputy to the National Assembly for the Block of the Homeland, Pedro Carreño.

The precautionary measures agreed by the Plenary Chamber in order to guarantee the respective procedural channels consist of the following: Ban on leaving the country of citizen Luisa Ortega Díaz; Prohibition to sell and tax all of her assets, and freezing of all her bank accounts, according to a press note published by the country’s highest court.

In the decision it was ordered to notify Luisa Ortega Díaz, Pedro Carreño and Tarek William Saab for the purpose of attending the celebration of the aforementioned hearing.

On June 16, the parliamentarian introduced a document in which he asked to evaluate possible prosecution of merits against the Prosecutor for the alleged serious misconduct in the exercise of her office.

Carreño said that for this request he appealed to Article 22 of the Organic Law of Citizen Power – which states that members of the Republican Moral Council will be removed from their posts by the National Assembly, following a ruling by the TSJ in Plenary Hall, declaring that there is merit for its prosecution – and article 23 of the Organic Law of the Public Ministry, which stipulates the serious offenses by the Head of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, as states the Venezuelan News Agency.
