Saab: Attorney General lied when she said call to elect the magistrates was done behind her back

The Ombudsman, Tareck William Saab, stated that the Attorney General, Luisa Ortega Díaz, attended the meeting on December 16, 2015 when the pre-selection of judges of the Supreme Court of Justice was discussed, dismantling the argument put by the highest authority of the Public Ministry to request the removal of the judges of TSJ.

In a press conference of the Moral Power, Saab, who was next to the Comptroller General of the Republic, Manuel Galindo, after a meeting where the three members of this body participated, showed the minutes of the meeting, where it was discussed the subject of the judges in 2015, and stated that there was no vote against, nor a saved vote by the members in reference to the pre-selected list.

Saab insisted that the Attorney General, the Comptroller and himself, as Ombudsman and President of the Republican Moral Council, complied with the legal requirements for the election of Judges of the Supreme Court of Justice, put to a vote in the Parliament.

He assured that: “The Attorney General lied when she said that the call to elect the magistrates was done behind her back”, the Ombudsman showed the book of minutes where it was unanimously signed the validation of the minutes.

He pointed out after the meeting that: “Today the historic truth of Citizen Power is now rectified and vindicated before the national public opinion.”

Finally he informed that this Friday will be issued certified copies of each of the documents to the TSJ to demonstrate that the meeting was carried out, that there were no votes against the decision and that the error was corrected.
