The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, arrived on Wednesday in the Dominican Republic to host the 5th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

The National President was accompanied by the first combatant woman, Cilia Flores, to participate in this regional event, in which the Dominican Republic will transfer the pro-tempore presidency of the bloc to El Salvador.

“Latin America has already traveled almost a decade of searching and consolidating its own path with a common doctrine in respect to diversity. CELAC consolidates and signals a great path for a Latin America and a Caribbean that have to be united today more than ever in the face of threats, “said the Head of State upon his arrival.

Earlier through his Twitter account @NicolasMaduro he wrote: “Arriving in Dominican Republic to the CELAC Summit, with our message of Union in Bolivar and Chávez … Our Americas Advances and Overcomes … ”

The Heads of State and Government will sign approximately 20 resolutions including actions against poverty, attention to migration, fight against drug trafficking, nuclear disarmament, gender and development financing.
