The Parliamentary Bloc of the Homeland celebrated the release of the Puerto Rican independence leader, Óscar López Rivera, after 35 years in prison after being sentenced to 55 years, accused by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of seditious conspiracy.

The Parliamentary Bloc of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela celebrates with the Puerto Rican and Latin American people the possible release of Óscar López Rivera for the month of May this year, after being unjustly imprisoned for 35 years in the United States for courageously pursuing the independence of his Homeland.
If liberation comes to fruition, it will be a victory for the peoples, the progressive and revolutionary forces of Our Americas and the world that for more than three decades has demanded the freedom of this bulwark of a free and sovereign Puerto Rico.
We as Bolivarian men and women, hope that this will be the beginning of the necessary process of independence for that sisterly nation of the Caribbean, so that it definitively conquers the rights to be a Republic free of the colonialist and imperialist domination of the United States.
The union of Latin America and the Caribbean will never be complete without the full independence of Puerto Rico, for this was the common dream of Bolivar, Martí, Fidel, Chávez and many other forgers of the Great Homeland. For this powerful reason, may the people of Puerto Rico count with our most absolute commitment to consummate this project of union, sooner rather than later.
