President Nicolás Maduro announced that the construction of the first Binational Peace Zone with Colombia is making serious progress. He assured that decisive steps are being taken in the institutional, economic, commercial, social, and security spheres between the two nations.
During his «Con Maduro+» program, the president described the signing of an Understanding Memorandum by the border states of both countries as a historic event. This agreement lays the foundation for cooperation across their extensive shared border, which stretches over 2,200 kilometers.
The head of state emphasized that the objective of this initiative is unity, liberation, peace, and shared development. He emphasized that Venezuela and Colombia share a glorious history of liberation and building a great homeland, which makes it essential to consolidate these mechanisms of understanding.
There are three binational zones identified. Zone One, already operational, encompasses Zulia and Táchira states. Zones Two (Apure-Arauca) and Three (Amazonas) are currently under construction, as explained the head of state.
From Zulia State, Governor Luis Caldera is already reporting concrete results. He mentioned that trade has been strengthened with 91 SENIAT authorizations and that production of crops such as oil palm and livestock in the southern part of the lake has been boosted.
The improvement in border security is another notable achievement, allowing for the development of productive activities and the execution of infrastructure and services that directly benefit the communities located along the border.
In Binational Zone Three (Amazonas state), Governor Miguel Rodríguez reported on the First Orinoco Binational Forum, a high-level event attended by Colombian governors and ambassadors from both countries to promote cooperation and development in this border region.
