The President of the Republic, Nicolas Maduro, met on Thursday with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, prior to his participation in the signing ceremony for the cessation of the armed conflict between the Government of Colombia and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia- People’s Army (FARC-EP).
President Maduro arrived in Havana, Cuba, where was made concrete the signing of the peace agreement. The meeting was also attended by the Secretary General of the United Nations Organization (UN), Ban Ki-moon; the President of Cuba, Raul Castro, and the President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, among others Presidents. This peace agreement addresses three essential points for the end of the conflict. The most important of these consists of a roadmap leading to a definitive bilateral cease fire and the surrendering of weapons by the insurgent group, which will be verified by the United Nations, through its Security Council.
