Maduro stressed the need to convene OPEC and non-OPEC summit in the first quarter of 2017

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, held a meeting with the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) , Mohammad Barkindo, to agree on the stability and progressive recovery of the realistic and fair prices of oil.

At a press conference from Miraflores Palace, in Caracas, he emphasized the urgent need that has been conveyed to the Secretary, to convene an OPEC and non-OPEC member countries Summit in the first quarter of the year and thus be able to obtain an agreement for the stabilization of Oil prices, for 10, 15 or 20 years, with fair and real prices.

The Head of State reported that has been founded a Monitoring and Coordination Committee which is made up of 5 countries at a ministerial level, where Venezuela will be participating under the conduction of Minister of Energy and Mines, Nelsón Martinez.

“This is a historic agreement, an agreement never seen before, which has allowed us to become partners to OPEC countries,” assured the National President. He also announced that non-OPEC oil-producing countries, such as the Russian Federation, will be inside the organization starting this year.

The President thanked the role played by Secretary Mohammad Barkindo for the achievement of this agreement and all the commitment he has had with the stability of the world.
